The night before, Amirov’s nephew Yusup Dzhaparov, who holds the position of deputy head of the city of Kaspiysk, was also detained. He is suspected of murdering the investigator.
For what exact reason the mayor of Makhachkala was detained is still unknown. According to a source in the government of Dagestan, the mayor was detained right at his workplace: “In the morning in Makhachkala, Lenin Square, where the city administration building is located, was blocked by special forces, there was a lot of military equipment. Amirov was put in a helicopter.”

The mayor of Makhachkala was flown by helicopter to Rostov-on-Don, a source in the Dagestan department of the FSB told PublicPost. According to him, a joint arrest operation was carried out by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee for the North Caucasus Federal District: “Amirov was detained on suspicion of involvement in serious and especially serious crimes. What crimes he is charged with is still unknown. He will be interrogated in Rostov.” .
The source also said that searches were also being carried out in the mayor’s house: “The area adjacent to Amirov’s house was cordoned off by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB. Searches are also underway in the mayor’s house.”

According to the official representative of the Investigative Committee, Vladimir Markin, the mayor of Makhachkala has been transferred to Moscow: “A criminal case has been opened against the mayor of Makhachkala, Said Amirov, for organizing the murder of the acting head of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee for the Sovetsky district of Makhachkala.”
In this criminal case, as Markin said, more than 10 more alleged accomplices of the crime were detained.
It was not possible to obtain official information from the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs. The press secretary of the Makhachkala mayor's office, Murtuzali Magomedov, promised PublicPost to comment on the situation later, but subsequently did not answer calls.
Said Amirov has been mayor of Makhachkala for more than 14 years. He is also known in Dagestan as the official who survived the most assassination attempts - 15.
