Alexey Kozlov remains in prison

Aleksey Kozlov is not allowed to leave IK-9 in the Ivanovo region, contrary to a court decision. He went on a hunger strike.

“Neither the prosecutor’s office nor the Federal Penitentiary Service will let him go, despite the original court decision that we, the colony, have in our hands, in general, everywhere. Alexei went on a dry hunger strike, demanding that the court decision be carried out,” Olga Romanova told The New Times. She came to the Ivanovo prosecutor's office to seek the release of her husband. The duty prosecutor for the Ivanovo region Sergei Gazhur did not agree with the grounds for the release of Alexei Kozlov from the colony, presented by his defense (original decision of the Presidium of the Moscow City Court).

On May 31, the Moscow City Court reduced the sentence under article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "fraud" to four years in prison, which Alexei Kozlov had already served. Charges under article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "legalization of stolen property" were dropped, so Kozlov had to go free. Before the decision of the Moscow City Court, he had to sit for 8 months. The decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, read out on May 31 in the Moscow City Court, stated that many violations had been committed by the Presnensky District Court when bringing Kozlov to criminal liability.
