A criminal case has been opened in the Kemerovo region following a fire at a pyrotechnics warehouse in Novokuznetsk, which resulted in two deaths and two more injuries, Nadezhda Ananyeva, senior assistant to the head of the ICR Investigative Directorate for the region, told the Interfax-Siberia agency.
The case was initiated under Article 218 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules for accounting, storage, transportation and use of explosives, flammable substances and pyrotechnic products).
The investigation is considering several reasons for the incident: smoking in the wrong place, violation of labor safety rules and faulty electrical wiring.
Meanwhile, as a law enforcement source told the agency, the bodies of both victims have been identified as pyrotechnicians Dmitry Vasiliev, born in 1987, and Yuri Noskov, born in 1985.
The Novokuznetsk Youth Affairs Committee clarified to the agency that one of the victims, D. Vasiliev, was the winner of the regional “Young Family” competition in 2011. He is survived by his wife and three-year-old daughter.
As reported, on Sunday at about 17:00 local time in Novokuznetsk, a pyrotechnics warehouse caught fire followed by an explosion. The total area of the fire was about 100 square meters. m, the bodies of two dead were found at the scene of the fire. Two victims were also reported - a woman who received burns to the upper respiratory tract, and a man with a traumatic brain injury.
