There will be no complete demolition of the recently restored Central Stadium in Yekaterinburg, the Ministry of State Property Management of the Sverdlovsk Region (MUGISO) told Znak.com.

Now, in bureaucratic language, the Central Stadium is the owner of “cultural heritage protection items.” Before the reconstruction of the stadium was carried out under the leadership of the Sinara group, these items included, in particular, walls with columns and an entrance group with sculptures. Based on the results of the reconstruction, the Central Stadium had to submit a scientific restoration report to MUGISO, which would attest to the preservation of all historical elements. So the ministry is not yet aware of the extent to which this requirement has been met. Officials notified the Central Stadium of the need to provide the document.

“We will not allow any new stadium reconstruction project that involves the demolition of security items,” the department says. Representatives of MUGISO said that the new project will have to undergo a historical and cultural examination. Both designers and contractors have been warned about this many times, MUGISO says.

The current two projects for the new reconstruction of the stadium for the 2018 FIFA World Cup games, prepared by ABD Architects, involve the preservation of cultural heritage items. In fact, this is expressed in the preservation of fragments of two walls of the current complex. In this regard, at a meeting of the Yekaterinburg City Planning Council in April, the chief architect of the Ural capital, Mikhail Vyatkin, said that it would be advisable to consider the option of excluding the stadium from the register of protected objects and building a new one in its place.

The Council proposed that the authorized body for the protection of cultural heritage sites, MUGISO, contact the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation with a proposal to exclude the Central Stadium sports complex from the register of protected sites. But MUGISO said today that they held consultations in Moscow and the position of the federal department is to keep the stadium in this register.

Meanwhile, the public is outraged by the intention to actually demolish the recently restored stadium and build a new facility on this site for 11 billion rubles. Moreover, after the championship games, the stadium will have to be redone again - some of the seats will have to be dismantled.

In addition, it turned out that huge expenses were caused, among other things, by the presence of gasket companies that took out contracts. Thus, in December 2012, the FSUE Sport Engineering company, which traditionally builds facilities for the Ministry of Sports, won the competition to design the Central Stadium for 898 million rubles. Then she transferred the order to the Moscow company StroyImpulse - already for 683 million, and the latter subcontracted to the architectural company ABD Architects, which undertook to complete the project for money “much, much” less than 683 million rubles.
