President Vladimir Putin said that economist Sergei Guriev can live where he wants, RIA Novosti reports.
According to Putin, no one drives Guriev from the country, he is a free person and can choose a place of residence. “He is engaged in economic activity. Let yourself do where he wants and where he likes it more, ”the president added.
Putin noted that nothing threatens the economist in Russia if he did not violate the laws. “Is there any reason to put him in jail? I don't know anything about it. I recently learned such a name, ”he explained.
Recall that at the end of May, Sergei Guriev resigned from the post of rector of the Russian Economic School, refused to run for the new composition of the Sberbank supervisory board and left Russia. Subsequently, it became known that he is in Paris. Guriev himself said that he was not going to return in the near future, as he was afraid of criminal prosecution.
On June 4, Guriev, in an interview with Interfax , confirmed that he still could not feel in Russia in full security. According to the economist, he prefers to live in different countries with employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
It should be noted that experts associated the departure of Guriev from the country with his negative expert opinion on the second sentence to Mikhail Khodorkovsky and pressure from the Investigative Committee. The economist expressed the opinion that Mikhail Khodorkovsky was convicted undeservedly. Earlier, the Investigative Committee confirmed that the rector of Rash was about about a month before the resignation in the Yukos case.
