The court extended the arrest of human rights activist Mikhail Savva

In Krasnodar, the court today extended until August 11 the detention of human rights activist Mikhail Savva, arrested in April on suspicion of fraud with grants. The meeting was held closed.

Last week, the court refused to change the preventive measure for Savva, which she asked for protection. According to the prosecutor’s office, being free, a human rights activist may hide, put pressure on witnesses or prevent the investigation.

The criminal case against Mikhail Savva under the article "Fraud" was instituted in April. According to investigators, the human rights activist participated in the embezzlement of 366 thousand rubles allocated from the budget by the administration of the Krasnodar Territory on grants. In mid -May, Mikhail Savva, a professor at Kuban State University, became a defendant in another criminal case.

Human rights activists consider the persecution of their colleagues political and attribute him to the criticism of Savva to the departments who check the NGOs in the Krasnodar Territory.
