Izvestia: Irina Prokhorova will become a candidate for the post of mayor of Moscow

A candidate for the post of mayor of Moscow from the "Civil Platform" will be the sister of the party leader Mikhail Prokhorov - Irina. This was reported by Izvestia with reference to the source aware in the decisions made. According to the interlocutor of the publication, the billionaire himself does not have time to get rid of foreign assets, which does not allow him to take part in the election race.

“She showed herself perfectly, participating in the debate, while Mikhail Prokhorov ran for the presidency. Confused relationship is also an argument of trust from both the leader of the“ Civil Platform ”and those people who support Prokhorov,” the source said.

The businessman’s circle also emphasized that the main problem in the nomination of Mikhail Prokhorov to the mayor’s post was his burden with foreign assets. First of all, the difficulty arose with the rights to the Brooklyn Nets basketball club. It is not possible to translate the rights and other individuals or legal entities in a short time. According to the current legislation, the election candidate cannot be registered if he has foreign assets.

“If other assets are still somehow possible to either transfer them to a trust or register them for the possession of a Russian company, then the basketball club will simply not allow you to re -register. Prokhorov owns Brooklyn Nets personally, and this is a lot of money, which is also constantly growing in price,” a source in the party explained.

Earlier, the version was put forward that if Prokhorov could not be legally getting rid of foreign assets, then the former mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov will nominate his candidacy for the capital's mayor. At the same time, Luzhkov himself has already stated the media several times that he did not discuss this issue with Prokhorov and did not make decisions at all to nominate his candidacy for the elections. Irina Prokhorova was also called among possible candidates. In addition, according to Izvestia, the option in which the former mayor will act as a consultant to Irina Prokhorova in the upcoming election race is not excluded.

The early elections of the Moscow Mayor will be held on September 8 on a single voting day. The current mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced his intention to resign on June 4. The next day, the resignation was adopted by Vladimir Putin. At the same time, he appointed Sobyanin the acting mayor.

Sobyanin's powers as mayor of Moscow expired in 2015. The media showed assumptions that the decision to resign and go to early elections was due to the desire to artificially reduce the deadlines for the election campaign for other candidates.

The desire to take part in the mayor’s elections was also announced by the member of the opposition coordination council Alexei Navalny, the leader of the Yabloko party, Sergei Mitrokhin, the coordinator of the Left Front Sergey Udaltsov, the ex-minister of the economy, the chairman of the Civil Initiative party Andrei Nechaev, as well as the former deputy head of the Russian Federal Property Management Service Oleg Mitvol. The Communist Party announced the intention to put up the vice-speaker of the State Duma of Ivan Melnikov to the elections. Deputy Vladimir Ovsyannikov will run from the LDPR. “Another Russia” will nominate Alexander Kamensky to the mayors of the “swamp business”.
