An unemployed Muscovite was the first to submit documents for the mayoral election.

The first two candidates submitted documents to the Moscow City Election Commission to participate in direct early elections for the mayor of Moscow, Kommersant reports.

“Two people submitted self-nomination documents. Many parties are planning to hold their city conferences tomorrow. I think that on Monday the picture for the party candidates will be clear,” said the chairman of the election commission, Valentin Gorbunov.

He clarified that today the documents were submitted by 31-year-old businessman Igor Suzdaltsev and 30-year-old unemployed Muscovite Alexey Denisov.

On June 4 , Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that he was ready to resign and participate in early elections for the head of the city. They will take place on September 8, and until then Sobyanin and his colleagues will work in their places as acting officials.

President Vladimir Putin accepted Sobyanin's resignation on June 5. “In general, you are working successfully, so I ask you to continue this work,” Putin told Sobyanin . “Despite internal political events, social order must be ensured in such a large city as Moscow, I hope that you can cope with this.”

Later it became known that Sobyanin would run in the elections as a self-nominated candidate. Alexey Navalny also announced his desire to take part in the elections for the mayor of Moscow. Mikhail Prokhorov abandoned this idea : according to him, for him and his “Civic Platform” the elections to the Moscow City Duma, which will take place next year, are more important.
