The Communist Party nominated Melnikov as a candidate for mayors of Moscow

The First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Ivan Melnikov, was elected candidate for the post of mayor of Moscow from the Communist Party at the city party conference, the first secretary of the Moscow City Party Committee Valery Rashkin said on his Twitter.

"Ivan Ivanovich Melnikov was approved by a candidate for mayors of Moscow from the Communist Party," wrote Rashkin.

The Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party Sergei Obukhov in his blog specified that 85 people voted for Melnikov’s candidacy, and seven against it.

President Vladimir Putin on June 5 signed a decree on the resignation of the capital mayor Sobyanin, who announced the desire to participate in early elections. The elections will be held on a single voting day on September 8, 2013. Sobyanin himself said that he would go to them as a self -nominated person.

According to the Mosgorisbirkom, to date, the documents for participation in the elections, in addition to Sobyanin have submitted eight candidates. Among them are a member of the Coordinating Council of the opposition Alexei Navalny, nominated by the RPR-Parnas, Sergey Mitrokhin from the Yabloko party, Mikhail Degtyarev from the LDPR, candidate from the Volya party Svetlana Peunova, leader of the Corrosion of Metal group Sergey Pauk Troitsky. All candidates need to complete the registration procedure to enlist 6 percent of Moscow municipal deputies. In addition, self -nominates will have to collect about 73 thousand signatures of Muscovites in their support. To provide a full set of documents, candidates have 30 days from the date of start of the election campaign.
