Acting Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin submitted to the Moscow City Election Commission the documents necessary to nominate him as a candidate for the position of mayor.
On Monday afternoon, in the meeting room of the Moscow City Election Commission, Sobyanin presented the commission members with a passport, an application for self-nomination as a candidate, information on income for 2012 and a number of other necessary documents.
After checking them, the Chairman of the Moscow City Election Commission, Valentin Gorbunov, issued Sobyanin with confirmation of acceptance of the documents and permission to open the candidate’s election account.
On June 4 , Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that he was ready to resign and participate in early elections for the head of the city. They will take place on September 8, until then Sobyanin and his colleagues will work in their places as acting officials. The leader of “Metal Corrosion” Sergei “Spider” Troitsky, the leader of “Yabloko” Sergei Mitrokhin, State Duma deputy Mikhail Degtyarev - candidate from the LDPR, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Ivan Melnikov - candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation will compete with Sobyanin for the post of mayor of the capital. Sergei Udaltsov, who is under house arrest in connection with the Bolotnaya case, also expressed his desire to run for office. Documents for registration were submitted by the deputy director of the Kalita-Finance company Igor Suzdaltsev and unemployed Muscovite Alexey Denisov. Mikhail Prokhorov's Civic Platform refused to participate in the elections.
