Among the largest EU markets, sales growth last month was recorded only in the UK (+11%).
In Spain, sales fell by 2.6%, in Italy - by 8%, in Germany - by 9.9%, in France - by 10.4%.
In January - May of this year, 5,071 million new cars were registered, which is 6.8% less than a year earlier.
In the first five months of this year, sales growth was also recorded only in the UK (+9.3%). In Spain and Germany, the decrease was 5.8% and 8.8%, respectively, in Italy and France, a reduction in sales from the beginning of the year is expressed by two -digit numbers - 11.3% and 11.9%.
Germany remained the largest automobile market in Europe - in May 216,316 thousand cars were sold here.
In the UK, which remained in second place, 180 111 thousand cars were sold last month, in France, which took third place - 148,490 thousand cars.
In Greece, car sales decreased by 1.4%in May, in Cyprus - fell by 41.4%.
In the EU countries, Plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, sales of new cars last month decreased by 5.9%, to 1,083 million.
The Volkswagen group retained the positions of the leader of the European car market. The company's sales in May decreased by 2.8% - to 264,768 thousand cars, but the Volkswagen market share increased to 25.4% from 24.6%.
VOLKSWAGEN brand vehicles actually reduced by 7.3%, Audi - by 3.2%, Skoda - by 5%, Seat - increased by 12.2%.
The PSA Group, whose share in the European market decreased in May to 11% a year earlier, reduced the sale of products last month by 13.2% to 115 191 thousand vehicles. The volume of the implementation of Peugeot fell by 11.3%, Citroen - by 15.4%.
Renault reduced sales in Europe by 10%, the market share of the French automaker dropped to 8.2%from 8.5%.
The GM Group sales in the European market decreased by 11.3%last month, Ford - by 0.3%, fiat - by 10.8%, BMW - by 7.2%, Toyota - by 4.9%, Honda - by 3.5%, Volvo - by 3.5%.
The growth of sales in May was demonstrated by the German Daimler (0.7%), Japanese Nissan (5.8%) and Mazda (29.8%), South Korean Hyundai (1.9%), as well as Jaguar Land Rover (9.8%).
