After mass protests, the court overturned the closure of the national television and radio company

Greece's highest administrative court has ruled that state broadcaster ERT, which was shut down by the country's government last week to save money, can resume operations, the BBC reports.

According to the court decision, the television and radio company can continue broadcasting until a new national media company is created.

On June 11, it became known that the Greek authorities decided to close the state broadcasting corporation ERT in order to save money. Cabinet spokesman Simos Kedikoglu explained the move by saying the company was a model of opacity and wastefulness. The government said that by the end of summer a new, now private media structure will be created, which will be significantly smaller than the previous one.

Following this, a national strike began in Greece to protest the sudden closure of ERT. Trade unions and all Greek media took part in it.
