Since childhood, I have been interested in the Caucasus. When I still did not know anything about him-because of the intriguing name, some kind of scraps of stories heard, a dark brown mountain chain on the satin, which runs between the two blue seas, and its location between Europe and Asia. Now, having matured, having traveled most of Europe, Asia and the former Soviet Union, I know more. But it is funny that the mystery of the Caucasus still captivates me-I understand a lot in part, and the local people who look like my father, daughter or brother, now and then turn out to be absolutely incomprehensible to me.
My shooting in the Caucasus is a continuation of my previous project about the border territories. I mean both the external borders of the state and internal. The boundaries that separate and unite, which you will find everywhere in the world, but in the Caucasus their concentration is especially great.
The work below - from Chechnya and Abkhazia, I tried to meet these places and their people with an open heart, realizing that the only possible way for this was to be honest with myself. This means looking, understanding and interpreting everything he met, exposing all my feelings, feelings of a person that I became many years later - as it used to be with a boy naively fantasizing over the pages of an old school atlas.
