The All-Russian Popular Front has nominated Acting Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov as a candidate for the elections of the head of the region, which will be held on September 8, ITAR-TASS reports . The corresponding decision was made on Wednesday at a conference of the regional branch of the United Russia party.

1,184 people voted for Vorobyov’s candidacy in a secret ballot. In addition to Vorobyov, two more candidates were considered at the conference - the chairman of the Moscow regional public organization "All-Russian Society of Disabled Persons" Nikolai Zelikov, who received 40 votes, and the head of the regional branch of the organization "Business Russia" Alexander Levchenko, for whom 47 people voted.

At the conference, Vorobyov himself invited cosmonaut Maxim Suraev to head his campaign headquarters. “Before you fly into space, I will ask you to head my election headquarters,” Vorobiev said. He also announced the names of three contenders for the post of senator from the Moscow region, whom he would have to name after collecting signatures, Interfax reports . “These are Lydia Antonova, Maxim Suraev and Dmitry Sablin. I will consider these comrades-in-arms for the post of senator,” Vorobiev said.

Lidiya Antonova holds the post of first deputy chairman of the government of the Moscow region. Dmitry Sablin was a State Duma deputy until June 18. On Tuesday, the lower house of parliament prematurely terminated the powers of Sablin, who surrendered his mandate “of his own free will.” Earlier, the media reported that Sablin, who comes from the team of former Moscow Region Governor Boris Gromov, could replace Gromov in the Federation Council. Gromov himself can then move to the State Duma, having received Sablin’s mandate.

Sablin is a shareholder of OJSC MDK, the largest landowner in the Moscow region, and LLC D2. In August 2012, the United Russia member became a co-founder of Rota LLC, located in Krasnoarmeysk near Moscow. As Sablin himself explained to Forbes , this is an operating company that manages the business. According to him, he transferred his share for trust management to the MDK group immediately after the establishment of the LLC.

Vorobyov was appointed acting governor of the Moscow region in November 2012, after Sergei Shoigu moved to the post of Minister of Defense. His father Yuri Vorobyov is one of the founders of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Andrei Vorobyov himself began his civil service as an assistant to Sergei Shoigu, then Deputy Prime Minister. Before this, Andrey Vorobyov founded the Russian Sea company. Now his brother Maxim Vorobyov heads the board of directors of Russian Sea.
