Alexander Lavut was born on July 4, 1929. In 1951 he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, then taught mathematics in Kazakhstan and Ukraine, worked as a mathematician-programmist.

In 1980, he was convicted under Article 190-1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR - "The spread of knowingly false fabrications defaming the Soviet state system."
