Egypt's army on Tuesday proposed suspending the constitution, dissolving parliament and holding early presidential elections if the country's President Mohamed Morsi and the opposition do not agree to resolve the country's political crisis, reported . Reuters

Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which ruled the country until the last presidential elections, developed its own plan for overcoming the crisis. According to the plan, during the transition period the country will be governed by a specially created temporary council.

The agency said this military draft is preliminary. It must be approved by the main Egyptian opposition group, the National Salvation Front, and a number of other political forces.

On Monday, the army command issued an ultimatum to supporters and opponents of the current government demanding an agreement to resolve the political crisis within 48 hours. Otherwise, the military threatened, the army will present its “road map” of actions to overcome the crisis.

On Monday evening, President Morsi held a meeting with Prime Minister Hisham Qandil and Defense Minister Abdel Fatah el-Sissi. Following its results, Morsi said that implementation of the ultimatum would cause confusion on the country's political scene. The president also noted that the command of the Egyptian army did not discuss the situation in the country with him before issuing an ultimatum demanding his resignation.

Massive anti-government protests have continued in Egypt since the end of June. Demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Islamist President Morsi. Representatives of the opposition had previously given him an ultimatum. They gave the head of state until the evening of July 2 to resign voluntarily. On Saturday, the opposition movement Tamarod (“Risen”) reported that it had collected more than 22 million signatures (more than a quarter of Egypt’s population) in support of the president’s resignation.

During rallies in different cities of Egypt, at least people died, including an American student, after which the US authorities called on their citizens to leave the country. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Health, 253 people were injured during the unrest.
