A terrorist attack in the Iraqi mosque: 22 people were killed, dozens were injured

In the east of Iraq, about 22 people became victims of the attack, dozens were injured.

The tragedy occurred in the city of Muktady, 80 km northeast of Baghdad, reports Reuters with reference to the information of the republic’s police. The explosion thundered in one of the local mosques during the evening prayer, when there were many believers inside.

BBC clarifies that the injured mosque belongs to Shiites.

None of the extremist groups operating in Iraq has yet taken responsibility for the attack.

However, with a high degree of probability, the cause of attacks can be called a religious conflict between the Sunnis and Shiites, which has become significantly aggravated in the country recently, ITAR-TASS notes.

The current situation, in fact, repeats the events of 2006-2007, when the religious discord between the Sunnis and Shiites took away tens of thousands of lives.

According to the UN, only in May, over 750 people became victims of explosions and attacks of militants in Iraq.
