The mayor of Tomsk Nikolai Nikolaychuk said that he was resigned of his own free will, RIA Novosti reports. According to him, he leaves his post due to disagreements with the governor of the region Sergey Zhvachkin.

“The continuation of my work will inevitably lead to a conflict between the city and the region. The only right decision is to resign,” Nikolaychuk said at an extraordinary meeting of the City Duma. “Many townspeople felt that there was a tension between the city and regional authorities. The situation has not grown into conflict, but it has already been affected by key issues. Not a single serious project cannot be started and completed without mutual confidence in the mayor and governor. "

Nikolaychuk expired in 2014. In accordance with the Charter of Tomsk, the first vice-mayor of Tomsk, Yevgeny Parshuto, will perform the duties of the head of the city. The mayor’s elections are scheduled for October 13. The deputies of the Duma of Tomsk sent 23.5 million rubles to their holding, said the speaker of the City Duma Sergey Ilyin.

Nikolaychuk headed Tomsk in the rank of first deputy mayor in 2007, after removing Alexander Makarov, accused of official crimes and corruption, and the transition to the regional administration of the First Vice-mayor Igor Shaturny. On March 18, 2009, he was elected the head of the city following the results of the second round of elections.

Zhvachkin was endowed with the powers of the Governor of the Tomsk Region on the proposal of the president in 2012. Prior to this, he served as General Director of Gazprom Transgaz Krasnodar LLC. Like Nikolaychuk, Zhvachkin consists in the party "United Russia"
