On the eve of this event, Netanyahu addressed the Israelis with an open letter, in which he first set out the conditions under which the parties resumed a dialogue about resolving the conflict.
“I consider it important that the state of Israel enters the diplomatic process lasting at least nine months in order to evaluate the possibility of achieving an agreement with the Palestinians. In the next nine months we will check if the Palestinian side is the same as we are interested in completing the conflict,” the head of the Israeli government wrote.
“If we come to a peace agreement, I will bring it to a referendum. Such a fateful decision cannot be made by an advantage in a few votes in the Knesset. It is necessary to give each citizen the opportunity to directly influence our future and our fate,” Netanyahu added.
He said that he rejected the basic requirements with the implementation of which the Palestinians linked the return at the negotiating table - a moratorium on the settlement construction and preliminary consent to retreat to the "pre -war" borders of 1967.
The only concession that Netanyahu mentioned in a letter was consent to release 104 Palestinians from prisons - in several stages, after the start of negotiations and depending on their results. Local media write that the corresponding initiative will be represented by the government on Sunday, where he will most likely receive support.
