Aksana Panova, chief editor of Znak.com, headed the election headquarters of the head of the city without drugs, Evgeny Roizman, candidate for mayors of Yekaterinburg from the Civil Platform party. Roizman reported this on his Facebook page. “Because it is the best,” the candidate explained his decision. Panova is the civilian wife of Roizman.
Roizman was nominated to mayor of Yekaterinburg on July 19. On July 28, his candidacy was officially registered. Earlier, the head of the City without drugs repeatedly stated that he did not want to participate in the mayor’s elections. In the future, however, he changed his position. "Look: half of the Cabinet of Ministers, the head of the police and so on - visitors. I want to turn this situation. And who will do it, if not we?" Roizman explained his decision.
Roizman’s rival from United Russia will be the vice-governor of the Sverdlovsk region Yakov Silin.
In the summer, the trial of Panova began, which several crimes are charged with at once. According to the most serious of the accusations, it is in extortion - the journalist threatens up to 15 years in the colony. The criminal prosecution of Panova began after her conflict with the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuyvashev and the leaders of the power structures of the region. In several interviews, recently given, the journalist associated her criminal case with the information support of the city without drugs.
At the end of June, members of the Presidential Council of Human Rights turned to the prosecutor of the Sverdlovsk region, indicating that the Panova case is political and pursue it precisely for a journalistic position, and not for crimes of a "general nature", as the investigation insists.
