"The first battle of the First World War on the eastern front took place exactly three days after Germany and Austria-Hungary declared war on the Russian Empire. It happened on August 4, 1914, when the Austrian cavalry consisting of the 1st, 6th and 7th th regiments of the Honvedian Hussars approached Gorodok, a fortress in the territory of what is now the Khmelnitsky region of Ukraine.

The Honvedian hussars seemed to be a vestige of the glorious, but, alas, past 19th century. A beautiful uniform - fiery red trousers, a bright blue top with gold trim, shiny boots - all this was suitable for parades, for balls in Vienna or Budapest, and for winning the hearts of provincial young ladies."
