A day earlier, Efimova complained that the athletes were forced to participate in the Universiade, and was afraid that, due to the premature peak of his form, he would not be able to keep at a more important start - the European Championship, which are held in Barcelona.

Earlier at the World Cup, Efimova won “gold” at a distance of 200 m and “silver” at a 100-meter, while setting Russia's records.

The Golden Medal of 200-meter, conquered by Efimova on August 2, became the first for Russia in swimming Olympic disciplines in 10 years: in 2003, Alexander Popov won 50 and 100 m in 2003, as well as in the 4x100 m relay. The championship also held in Barcelona.

The previous world record at a distance of 50 meters was set by American Jessica Hardy in 2009.
