The Belarusian manufacturer and supplier of potash mineral fertilizers Belaruskali reported that it has found a new trader in Qatar, ready to sell up to 3 million tons of Belarusian-produced potash fertilizers per year, the Prime agency reported on Monday, citing a statement from the company.

“On August 5, in Doha (Qatar), a framework agreement was concluded between Belaruskali and the Qatari company for the distribution of chemical and petrochemical products Muntajat on cooperation in the joint sale of mineral fertilizers,” the company said in a statement.

“The implementation of this agreement is part of the new sales strategy of Belaruskali, announced in connection with Uralkali’s decision to change the business conditions,” the statement notes.

As reported by Belaruskali, according to the Qatari side, it is ready to sell up to 3 million tons of potash fertilizers produced in Belarus per year. “At the same time, it is planned to strengthen the presence of Belaruskali products in previously untapped markets,” the company said in a statement.

The need to find a new trader arose for the Belarusian company after Uralkali at the end of July stopped its export sales through a joint trader with Belaruskali, the Belarusian Potash Company, making Uralkali-Trading its only export sales channel. A source at Belneftekhim called this decision by the management of Uralkali a “provocation” that brought down the global potash fertilizer market.
