The Supreme Court, having examined the complaints in the case of the leader of the Sverdlovsk branch of the Yabloko party, the deputy of the Yekaterinburg City Duma Maxim Petlin, left the sentence against him, reports RAPSI with reference to the Sverdlovsk Regional Court. At the same time, the Armed Forces changed his assistant to Andrei Panteleev for conditional punishment.
"The country's highest court fully agreed with the qualifications of the actions of the convicts. The changes affected only the type of punishment for the convicted Panteleev. The Supreme Court of Russia determined that Panteleev would be deprived of freedom. He will soon be released. The other part is left unchanged," the court said.
On March 21, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court sentenced Petlin to three years in prison in a general regime colony and a fine of 100 thousand rubles. The court found Petlin guilty of committing a crime under part 2 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code (large -scale extortion). Panteleev was convicted for a year and a half for aiding Petlin.
The day before the sentence, the Sverdlovsk Regional Agency for Political Information reported with reference to the press service of the Sverdlovsk Regional Court that Petlin was "found guilty." The screenshot of the news was published by the press service of the Yabloko party. Subsequently, the message was changed.
In addition, the site of the Sverdlovsk Regional Court then appeared that the verdict in the case of Petlin has already been issued. “I naively believed that I would find out the court decision tomorrow, but today the press service and the website of the regional court announced that the verdict was sentenced and I was found guilty. My hopes about a fair and independent court were finally scattered today,” Petelin said then.
The criminal case against Petlin was opened in February 2011. At this time, Petlin actively protested against cutting pine forests for the construction of a shopping and entertainment center. The forest site in question is the sanitary protection zone of the Western-Rorean cemetery of Yekaterinburg. The loop was charged with the fact that his protest campaign was an extortion of 3 million rubles from a construction company. Materials of wiretaps of the phone of Petlin, previously organized on the grounds of calls for extremist activity, were attached to this case.
After the release of a number of famous people, Petlin continued to protest against construction, which was regarded as providing pressure on witnesses. In addition, a video appeared in which an unknown, allegedly on behalf of Petlin, threatens a gun to the director of a construction company. At the end of August 2011, on this basis, Petlin was re -arrested and placed in jail.
All leading opposition and human rights organizations in Russia condemned the factory for the political reasons for the so -called "case of Petlin." The Maxim Petlin protection committee was created, which included, among other things, Vladimir Bukovsky. The surname Petlin is included in the list of political prisoners, transferred to the presidential administration by the organizers of protest shares.
