Today, at the 51st extraordinary session of the City Council, 45-year-old United Russia Evgeny Pavlov was elected mayor of Smolensk. All 19 deputies who attended the meeting voted for Pavlov (there are 23 deputies in the city council), ITAR-TASS reports . The agency notes that he needed 17 votes to be elected.
Recall that since July 1, Smolensk was left without a mayor, as the deputies of the City Council decided to resign Alexander Danilyuk, who held this post. At the previous meeting of the City Council, on June 28, the deputies recognized Danilyuk's work for 2012 as unsatisfactory. In addition, in May, a criminal case was initiated against Danilyuk for abuse of power.
