Chaplin: Orthodox countries are waiting for economic prosperity

Countries whose majority profess Orthodoxy have more chances for economic prosperity in the future. According to Interfax, this was stated by the head of the Synodal Department for the relationship between the Church and the Company Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin.

“Many today with contempt and neglect speak of the Orthodox peoples as economically unsuccessful. They build graphs of the dependence of economic prosperity on religion. Say, the atheists are the most successful, Protestants are a little less, Catholics and even less, and the Orthodox are the poorest and most unfortunate,” Chaplin stated.

"Many modern economists who do not suffer from market fundamentalism say that the growth of economics and consumption cannot be endless and that the peoples who can move away from the idea of ​​indispensable and unrealistic growth will be more successful in conditions when this growth will stop," he added.

Considering that "we must move from the growth economy to the sufficiency economy," the priest noted that "it was the sufficiency and self -restraint in the acquisition of earthly goods that have always been characteristic of Orthodox civilization."

"In her traditions, there was not an endless multiplication of material wealth, but the ability to be content with small or at least a reasonable amount of earthly goods. It is thought that the future is behind this approach. And today we need to state it in the categories of economic science and building an economic system," Chaplin said.

The head of the Synodal Department for the relationship between the Church and Society is not the first to make extravagant statements. So, in early June, at a round table in the Public Chamber, Chaplin said that Russia needed a "moral counter -revolution." In his opinion, young people could become the driving force of this process.

"The demand for the moral counter -revolution is very large. A significant number of young people are in no way satisfied with the moral consensus of the nineties, which still has the negative consequences in the life of society," said Archpriest. He attributed to such consequences the cynicism of many media and “their steps - mass culture”, the propaganda of homosexuality, immoral phenomena in the economy, easy accessibility, including minors, alcohol and drugs, an industry for debauchery and pornography, including children's.

On May 17, at the Forum of Party Projects of United Russia, Chaplin expressed the hope that the current government would be able to cope with the "antipatriotic" forces. "A deeply antipatriotic, anti -state propaganda is being conducted. There are organized forces, external support. But a smart state and a smart elite will always cope with such a threat if the deep forces of the people awaken," Archpriest said.

In his opinion, the current situation is largely similar to the situation of 1917. "Some carications of the emperor, ministers, priests, police officers seem to be taken from today's blogs, only the costumes are a little to change," Chaplin said. The representative of the Russian Orthodox Church warned that "if the elite and power do not be able to hear the voice of the people and rely on their strength, then this would certainly end in defeat."
