According to the Central Election Commission, Alexei Navalny may be removed from the election of the mayor of Moscow if the assumption of foreign financing of his election campaign is confirmed.
Earlier today, the Prosecutor General's Office announced that it had information about foreign financing of the candidate's campaign. According to the agency, more than 300 foreign legal entities and individuals transferred money to Navalny's Yandex.Money.
At the same time, the Yandex.Money company stated that the Prosecutor General's Office did not contact them regarding the transfer of money to Navalny.
“If it is proved that this is indeed the case, then there are different scenarios, up to the removal of a candidate ... This is a violation of the law, because campaign financing from foreign citizens, foreign organizations is simply unacceptable by Russian law,” RIA Novosti quotes a member of the Central Election Commission .
