The Prosecutor General’s Office’s arguments about signs of foreign financing of Navalny’s election campaign based on the IP addresses of the senders became a reason for jokes.

The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation checked payments to the accounts of Navalny's headquarters employees at the request of Vladimir Zhirinovsky and discovered that the IP addresses of over three hundred senders are located outside of Russia.

“In particular, it was established that through the electronic payment system Yandex-Money, more than 300 foreign legal entities and individuals, as well as anonymous donors from 46 countries (including the USA, Finland, Great Britain, Switzerland, Canada) from 347 IP addresses sent to the electronic wallets of A. Navalny and members of his campaign headquarters N.N. Lyaskina, K.S. Yankauskas and V.L. Ashurkov money for the election campaign of Moscow mayoral candidate A. Navalny.”

Foreign financing and anonymous payments are prohibited by law , and therefore the Prosecutor General’s Office transferred the materials to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to “resolve the issue of initiating a criminal case.” However, IP addresses do not indicate the citizenship of the payment sender, RIA Novosti reports the words of representatives of the Yandex.Money service.

“The IP address only indicates the technical Internet access settings of the person sending the payment. And it says nothing about his citizenship. For example, if you send money from a vacation in Italy, you remain a citizen of Russia.”

In fact, the editor-in-chief of the Ekho Moskvy radio station tweeted that he made transfers to each candidate's funds while in Italy - although the ironic tone may indicate that he was joking. This did not stop the industry publication TASS Telecom from seizing on Venediktov’s words and calculating the amount he transferred in cheeseburgers .

Navalny himself stated that all payments are checked by the Moscow City Election Commission: if any of the payments does not comply with the rules, it is returned back to the sender. The head of Navalny's campaign headquarters, Leonid Volkov, believes that the competing candidates (and, apparently, Zhirinovsky) are simply jealous of the success of the campaign.

How they are crushed by the fact that thousands of people voluntarily send money to the election campaign. They know that no one will ever give them a penny.
