Verdict without answers

On August 21, the Abinsk District Court of the Krasnodar Territory sentenced four officials accused of negligence during last year's floods in the Kuban. Then 172 people died in the region, of which about 160 - in the Crimean region

The ex-head of the administration of the Krymsky district Vasily Krutko was sentenced to six years in a colony-settlement, the ex-head of Krymsk Vladimir Ulanovsky - to three and a half years in a colony-settlement, the former deputy head of the Office for the Prevention of Emergency Situations of the Krymsky District Viktor Zhdanov - to four and a half years in a colony -settlements. The ex-head of the Nizhnebakansky rural settlement, Irina Ryabchenko, received a three and a half year suspended sentence.

But there is an important question that activists and local residents are asking: why was the guilt of the governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Alexander Tkachev, not reflected in the verdict? His words on the central square in front of the cinema with the loud name "Rus": "What, did you have to go around everyone?" - they talk about a lot. Why was not studied and voiced as part of the investigation so often mentioned by local residents the "seven-meter wave" that covered the city?

There are many questions, but the verdict and the investigation gave few answers. The trial of several perpetrators did not become the investigation of the entire flood, as people expected. And officials, most likely, will be released on parole after serving half of their sentences, because they are not political prisoners.

It is believed that "the captain is the last to leave the sinking ship," but Krymsk showed the opposite. Moreover, district officials tried to falsify the acts and protocols by committing official forgery with documents and signing them backdated. The flood showed, like a litmus test, that leaders of any level in a system favorable to them relax, cease to be ready for non-standard and critical situations. The mayor of Omsk, Vyacheslav Dvorakovsky, who did not interrupt his vacation after the tragedy on the Irtysh, when a barge crashed into a ship (6 people died and 49 were injured), is another proof of this.

In Russia, unfortunately, now there is a situation where any village or city can explode, drown, burn for various reasons. And there is little hope for regional authorities in such situations. You can only believe in the courage and heroism of individual people - no matter if they are employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the police, firefighters or ordinary people who are not indifferent to misfortune.

During the debate of the parties in court, one of the residents of Krymsk read out a poem that very accurately reflects the pain of the residents and their distrust of the authorities:

Here the doors are not closed for a reason,

Opened forever by the current.

And the power is shameless, as always,

Stubbornly struggling with his own shadow.
