Russia, in fact, is engaged in bribing dwarf states, seeking to host the world exhibition EXPO 2020 in Yekaterinburg. This is the conclusion made by Novaya Gazeta, which obtained documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the work of Russian diplomats with the Pacific countries.

As the publication writes, in the spring of this year the delegation of the Expo 2020 organizing committee visited the countries of the Pacific Ocean. “The island psychology turned out to be very close to the imperial one: if a white man arrives on a big ship, you have to change. Previously, local goods were given away in exchange for beads, for example. Now the votes for Yekaterinburg are changing to more serious things: after all, progress does not stand still,” Novaya ironically says.

Judging by the documents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, each small country receives certain preferences from Russia in exchange for the “correct” vote. Vanuatu, for example, will receive financial assistance in the amount of $40 thousand. Tuvalu will be provided with radios and stun guns for the police, as well as the assistance of a dentist. Also, the trip of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country to Paris, where voting will take place on the location of EXPO 2020, will be paid for at the expense of Russia. And the prime minister of the state was promised a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

They promised to send a set of medical equipment from UOMZ to the President of Kiribati, Anote Tonga. The Paulau archipelago was promised to eliminate the consequences of the typhoon ($500 thousand), and East Timor was promised to translate a collection of poems by its prime minister into Russian. The Marshall Islands will receive financial assistance to organize the Pacific Islands Forum summit.

During the voting, which will take place in November 2013, the principle of “one country, one vote” will apply. Therefore, even if the United States and China come out for Yekaterinburg’s competitors, we can easily beat out their votes with Fiji and East Timor.

Russia is “buying up” the votes of dwarf states in order to hold EXPO 2020 in Yekaterinburg. “It’s like giving beads to the natives.”
