Be heard

On August 24, 2013, a rally of young scientists in defense of academic science was held in Moscow, on Suvorovskaya Square. You can not love the rain, you can not love politics, you can not love public events - but it was impossible not to go to this rally. You can’t watch how they repain education and science - and stand aside.

And people came. About a thousand people are scientists, school teachers, university teachers. The area on which the Moscow authorities allowed to hold a rally turned out to be small, as soon as possible for such an event. On Saturday, like -minded people gathered here on the square, who strive for only one thing - to declare their position, the position of rejection in relation to the so -called RAS reform.

Here you could see many acquaintances, but people unknown to you - as if their own. Representatives of various academic institutions, of different regions of Russia, but all this circle of people - the intelligentsia, without which there will be no fundamental science in the country, were heard here. They are not used to rallies. The place of these people is scientific laboratories and university corps, and not protest stands; The familiar speeches for them are the classes at conferences and lectures in the in-line audiences, and not the slogans of disagreement; They write articles and books, and not turning to power.

But when there is power in the power that go beyond the scope of acceptable in their policy in relation to science; when they act as if they are ready to destroy the basics of the work of the existing academy; When these forces seem to be not interested in the position of people who create science, what else remains? What else to wait?

In the speeches of the rally participants, many correct words were heard. You cannot destroy academic freedom. You can not destroy research centers and schools. You can not interfere with the work of scientists, risking their new outflow abroad. You can not fight the existing problems with unusual means that can only worsen the situation, but not improve it. One cannot help but think about the future of the country.

But those who gathered on Suvorovskaya Square know these correct words. You can go to the stands and just be silent before such an audience as one of the speakers said. Speaking in protest is part of the matter. Well -prepared, well -organized, perfectly completed part of the case. Another part is to be heard.
