The Venice Film Festival opens

Today, August 28, the 70th Venice Film Festival begins. It will be opened by the science fiction 3D triller "Gravity" with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

The last time the Venetian festival was opened by a fantastic film in 2000 - it was the picture of Clint Eastwood “Space Cowboys”, “Interfax” notes. The film in the 3D format of the Venice Festival opens for the first time.

The second opening film is almanac, shot by 70 directors from different countries, ITAR-TASS reports. These are short films on the history of the festival in Venice, which last year celebrated the 80th anniversary. Among the authors, three Russians are Alexei German Jr., Alexey Fedorchenko and Marlene Khutsiev.

In addition, Herman entered the jury of debut films for the de Laurentis Award. The restored picture of his father “My Friend Ivan Lapshin” will be shown in the section “Venetian classics”, whose films will first participate in the competition - the best of them will be chosen by the jury from students of film schools.

The films of the competitive program will judge the jury under the chairmanship of Bernardo Bertolucci. This year, in addition to the Golden Leo, for the best film in Venice, the “Special Grand Prix of the Jury” will be awarded for the first time, the “Film pro” reports. Also, starting this year, the main competitive program will include 20 films, and not 23, as before.
