In Israel, a Nizhny Novgorod priest disappeared during a pilgrimage trip

The Israeli police are searching for a priest from Nizhny Novgorod, who disappeared on August 17 in Jerusalem.

The cleric of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese, Archpriest Vasily Varlamov, was in Israel on a pilgrimage trip with his wife and daughter. Shortly before the disappearance, the clergyman turned to the medical institution in connection with poor health. After receiving the necessary medical care, Father Vasily returned to the hotel. On the morning of August 17, he left the hotel to take a walk and did not return.

The wife announced what had happened to the police. Archpriest Vasily Varlamov was put on the wanted list. The Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem were informed about what happened.

“There are no signs, but there are no traces yet,” a friend of the missing Igor Levin told Progornn . “Israeli police suggests that Father Vasily may be in the territory of the Palestinian autonomy, and Palestina’s police will not react to a request for help in search. This greatly complicates the search.”

According to the brother of Father Vasily, Grigory Alekseevich, the Nizhny Novgorod diocese intends to hire a private detective to continue the searches.

In Nizhny Novgorod, donations have already been opened in order to send them to the Barlamov family to Israel. At the moment, about 50 thousand rubles from people from different cities of the country have been raised.

The Israeli police annually reports on the progress of the search measures and checks all the versions, up to the fact that Archpriest Varlamov could stay in Jerusalem of his own free will.

“The records of all security chamber were viewed, the probability of the fact that he is in one of the monasteries in the vicinity of the capital. Usually, if someone is kidnapped, we get at least some information about this. This time, no information has been received yet,” said Police press secretary Mikhail Zingerman.
