The author of the "great silence" showed a film about domestic violence in Venice

German director Philip Grening, known for the documentary "Great Silence", which in 2005 received a special prize of the jury of the Sandance festival and other prestigious awards, presented his new film "Die Frau des Polizisten) on Friday, participating in the main competition of the 70th Venice Film Festival , reports RIA "News" .

The picture tells the story of a young family in the German province. The husband works as a police officer, the wife is housekeeping and takes care of the little daughter. It seems that this ordinary family is happy, but the policeman’s wife is regularly subjected to domestic violence.

The director said that the story described by him can happen anywhere and is universal.

“This is a common problem, this applies not only to Germany. But this film is not only about domestic violence. This is the picture primarily about love between two people - between mother and daughter,” Grening said.

He admitted that, as a director, he is occupied by events that take place every day. "This daily life, which may seem completely simple and empty for someone, it is she who occupies me," Grening said.

The film "Police wife" lasts 175 minutes and is divided into 59 parts that do not have individual names. Each of the scenes begins and ends with ordinary credits with the words "beginning" and "end". It was in order to show the “mosaic of everyday episodes”, the director, according to him, chose such an unusual story structure.

"I divided the film into parts, each of which tells about its own. You can freely watch a movie in any sequence that you will choose. Among these parts there are episodes that talk about the relationship between mother and daughter, there are episodes about relationships between husband and wife, there are complete happiness of the part, but there are - filled with cruelty. Some parts open up the motives of those or other decisions. Others simply represent the usual life." - emphasized Grening.

The Venice Film Festival this year is held from August 28 to September 7.
