Durov spoke about the popularity of Telegram among Arabs

The Telegram mobile messenger has aroused increased interest among residents of a number of Arab countries. The general director of VKontakte, Pavel Durov, who is involved in the development of the application, spoke about this.

The head of VKontakte, Pavel Durov, in a commentary on a post in the community of the publication “Zuckerberg Will Call,” spoke about the audience of the mobile messenger Telegram, to which he had a hand. According to him, the application "suddenly aroused interest" in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, with several thousand users registering daily from there.

It is noteworthy that Durov spoke about the audience in the comments to the post where the Telegram update was discussed, improving support for the Arabic language in the application. He also noted that the application is not intended for Russians and not for VKontakte users. According to Durov, the CIS accounts for less than 30 percent of the Telegram audience.

Pavel Durov introduced Telegram on August 14. The application, designed for iOS, is similar to the popular WhatsApp messenger, but runs on the MTProto protocol, developed by Durov's brother Nikolai. The head of VKontakte emphasizes that the current version of the application was released for testing MTProto, and the main product is planned to be released in the future.
