“The Chinese capital is developing so rapidly that if you arrive here a year later, you may not recognize the area at all. New roads and areas are being built, but the space is limited. Because of this, old dilapidated buildings, sometimes completely slum-like, are being demolished. Such neighborhoods are often called hutuns: one-story houses with courtyards, somewhat similar to the Odessa Moldavanka. The area is criss-crossed with narrow streets and alleys.

Perhaps this is the historical center of Beijing, but sometimes it is not easy to understand what is of real value and what is a slum. Today we will take a walk through the hottest places in the city."
