Schedule 3. The total number of mentioning candidates in traditional media and the Internet during the campaign

The study conducted by the New Times (“Mediassogy” studied the mention of four candidates for mayor in the media from June 10 to September 2) confirmed that the candidate from the authorities had almost monopoly access to the federal television. In the news of five television channels, Sergei Sobyanin was mentioned four times more often than Alexei Navalny and 11 times more often than Sergey Mitrokhin (graphic 2). But according to the total number of mentioning in the media (schedule 3), Navalny managed to overtake the acting mayor. True, this result is largely owed to his critics: a third of all his references in the media are negative, and 86% of criticism falls on the Internet. Three other candidates have a negativity from 3% to 6%.
By the way, the greatest increase in the mention (see schedule 1) Navalny also brought the most scandalous events of his campaign. First of all, this is the verdict in the Kirovles case and the action near Manezhnaya Square (July 18), as well as the detection of illegal campaigning in the apartment of Navalny supporters (August 13).
