Vienna concerthouse went bankrupt

The director of one of the most famous concert halls in the world, the Vienna concerthouse, announced his bankruptcy.

In an interview with the APA agency, Matthias Naske, appointed by the director in July 2013, said that for the past 16 years subsidies from the city budget have not risen. The amount received by the concerthouse during this time amounted to a little more than a million euros - this is a third less than the “living wage”.

At the same time, the debts of the concerthouse reached six million, and the administration remains only to declare bankruptcy.

According to Nasska, the concerthouse could be saved without the help of the authorities, but then he would have to manage it as a commercial enterprise, change the policy in relation to the audience - to cancel cheap tickets and draw up programs in order to get the greatest income.

However, there is another way out. According to the plan of the new director, for five years - i.e. Until the end of his contract, the organization of European concert halls, in which the concerthouse, the city authorities and the Federal Government of Austria, is jointly, will be paid to the end of his contract.

The Vienna concerthouse was opened in 1913. There is a Vienna Symphony Orchestra, a municipal orchestra of Vienna. Over a year, about 750 concerts are held in the four halls of the concerthouse, which are attended by about 600 thousand listeners.
