The Arthronika Foundation holds an exhibition of the works of nominees for the Kandinsky Prize
For the seventh time, the Arthronika Foundation holds an exhibition of nominees the largest awards in Russia in the field of modern fine art - Kandinsky Prize. Of the 372 applications, strict experts selected 37 works. For almost two months they will be exhibited at the Drummer cinema.
The cultural fund "Arthronika" has been located in the cinema "Drummer" for a year. This constructivist architectural monument is still waiting for restoration and repair, after which the head of the Arthronika, Shalva Breus, plans to place a museum of contemporary art here. In the meantime, only nominees of the Kandinsky Prize are exhibited in the "drummer".
37 exhibits are very few, but today many artists if they do not gravitate to large forms, then, in any case, they prefer to create objects that need large spaces. Sometimes the author’s plan is disclosed only in a series of works of the same size that occupies a whole wall. More often, installation is created, where there are many components, and very different. The photo is complemented by video, painting - sculpture and so on. The spacious interiors of the "drummer" came in handy. The lobby, and the lower floor, and the auditorium, and the balcony are involved. The exhibition is divided into several thematic zones: "space of memory and sleep", "more than life", "about cinema and not only" and "reality as a document."
According to the jury of the Kandinsky Prize of Kandinsky, Ekaterina Bobrinskaya , the exhibition testifies to: they are still worried about social mythology, but they are already abandoning the frontal political statements.
"It would be wrong to say that there are no works affecting the political theme, but artists now touch on this topic on a completely different level. Not at the level of a poster statement, but at the level of existential understanding, as is the case in the case of Mamysh-Monro, which, alas, is no longer with us. This is a very subtle and deep work where the artist accepts Putin's appearance. If there was such a trend in the previous years, such a trend When the street activity has invaded personal space, now this street activity has become some kind of everyday life. Congles, it seems to me that they became more thinly than the artists, began to work more with the form, line, color, volume. Protest ", you should first see the irony.
Sometimes it happens that not artists turn to politics, but politics finds them. About a year ago, Shalva Breus promised to hold an exhibition of Pirosmani at the Drummer - it did not work out: “We worked a lot on the organization of this exhibition, which was supposed to first combine work from the meetings of Russian collectors and Russian museums, from foreign private collections and, most importantly, a collection of Pirosmani's paintings from the State Museum of Arts in Tiflis. We were in working contact and with the director of the museum Unfortunately, there is a law in Georgia (it is adopted relatively recently), according to which artistic values from the country cannot be imported and exported to which there is no diplomatic relationship between Russia and Georgia.
