Plastov Prize is postponed

The presentation of the annual plastic award for realistic painting with a prize fund of 20 million rubles this year will not take place. It was postponed until 2014 due to the "dampness of regulatory documents."

The Arkady Plastov Award (1893–1972) was established in 2010 by the Government of the Ulyanovsk Region, where the artist was born. It is awarded to realist artists , as well as organizations that have contributed to the development of artistic creation in Russia. In 2012, the prize became international, and the amount of prize amounted to about 10 million rubles.

In the winter of 2013, at the presentation of the Plastov Prize in London, it was announced to increase to 20 million rubles of the prize fund, which made it the largest in the world. The premium website provides the amount of 500 thousand euros. It was assumed that 10 million rubles will be allocated from the budget of the Ulyanovsk region, and private sponsors will be allocated the rest. The Prize Fund was to be finally formed by September 2013.

Sources close to the Ministry of Culture claim that "most likely, it was not possible to raise sponsorships." At the same time, the regional Minister of Culture Tatyana Ivshina called the “dampness of regulatory documents” as the reason for the transfer of the award.

“We are not yet ready to present a high -quality regulatory document to the cultural community. Our task is not just to give money to artists. There must be a clear understanding to whom and for what a prize will be given, ”she said.
