The booker erases the boundaries

Since 2014, authors from all countries who write in English will be able to apply for the Buker prize.

According to the current regulations, only a writer representing one of the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations, Ireland or Zimbabwe can receive a Buker prize.

“We are erasing all geographical and state borders,” the BBC quotes the chairman of the Buker Prize Foundation Jonathan Taylor. The report of the Fund, published in London on Wednesday, September 18, says that now the prize laureate can become "Any author writing in English, be it from Chicago, Sheffield or Shanghai."

The report also notes that the decision of the trustees of the award was difficult, and consultations with writers, publishers and booksellers began back in 2011. Initially, it was supposed to establish a separate prize for writers from the United States, but then it was decided to abandon this idea.

The abolition of restrictions on the Buker Prize caused a mixed reaction. Some laureates of the Boker of past years met her with enthusiasm, others did not like her. So, Anthony Susan Bayett, who received a prize in 1990, believes that now it will be impossible to qualifyly evaluate the works of all nominees: the judges simply will not have time to read them.
