Israeli servicemen joined the operations against militants who captured hostages at a Nairobi shopping center, Jerusalem Post reports. According to the latest data, the militants continue to hold about 30 hostages.

As a result of an attack on a shopping center in the Kenyan capital, which partially belongs to Israeli owners, at least 59 people were killed, about 200 were injured. Earlier it was reported that among the dead are citizens of Canada and France, as well as family members of President Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta. In addition, it is known that the Gansky poet Kofi Avanor, the former Permanent Representative of Ghana at the UN, died.

According to the Kenyan authorities, the number of militants is 10-15 people. On Sunday, Kenyan military and police began a special operation in the shopping center. Its details are unknown, but an intensive shootout was heard in the building.

Eyewitnesses of the incident reported that the attackers allowed only Muslims to leave the building. According to the local police, the attackers tried to rob one of the stores of the WestGate center. The militants used machine guns and grenades.

The Somali Radical Group "Ash Shabab" took responsibility for the attack by publishing an appropriate statement on Twitter. According to the agency, the attack participants are currently surrounded by security forces on one of the floors of the complex. At the same time, the security forces managed to kill one of the militants. Ash Shabab states that the militants who, presumably, still hold several visitors to the shopping center hostage, will not negotiate with the authorities.
