1943. The murder of Wilhelm Cuba

70 years ago, on September 22, 1943, the general commissar of the occupied Belarus Wilhelm Cuba was killed as a result of the explosion of the mines put under his bed by the Soviet agent Elena Mazanik.

Mazanik, who worked as a maid near Cuba, was recruited by the captain of state security Nikolai Khokhlov, who in 1954, refusing to eliminate the NTS leader George Okolovich, remained in the West.

In response to the murder of Cuba on the same day, 300 prisoners of the Minsk prison were shot by the Germans.

Posthumously on September 27, 1943, Cuba was awarded a knightly cross for military merits with swords.
