The Russian federal budget is skewed towards the power component. This was Interfax stated by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, reports. According to him, this imbalance occurred due to the fact that for 10-15 years Russia allocated practically no funds for the rearmament of the army.

Medvedev added that someday this period will end, and then a more rapid increase in spending on education, health care and science will begin.

Medvedev's statement came against the background of a slowdown in economic growth, due to which the government decided to cut budget expenditures for next year. The cost reduction was made possible, among other things, by freezing military salaries, as well as by transferring part of the state armaments program to the period after 2016.

According to the budget for 2013 and the planning period of 2014-2015, adopted at the end of last year (it is in relation to which the expenses of the updated budget are being reduced), in 2014 the government was supposed to spend a little more than a trillion rubles under the heading “national defense”, and another almost 1.7 trillion - for “national security and law enforcement.” For comparison, according to the plan, only about half a trillion rubles will be allocated for education, and 95 billion for culture. It is still unknown how much these budget items will be reduced when the financial document is reviewed again.

Previously, Medvedev always advocated active spending on national defense, explaining this by the need to modernize the army. It was the dispute over defense spending that caused the conflict between then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and former Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin in the fall of 2011. This dispute ended with Kudrin's resignation .
