British actress and producer Joanna Lumley has launched a fundraising campaign to restore the house of writer James Matthew Barrie, author of the tale of Peter Pan. The Daily Telegraph reports this. The actress called on readers to sponsor the renovation of windows in the Moat Brae mansion in the Scottish city of Dumfries.

There are 39 windows in the building, which will cost approximately £100,000 ($160,000) to repair. The trustees of the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust, which includes Lumley, offered fans of the writer's work to purchase any window of the mansion as their own and finance its renovation. Thus, according to the actress, everyone will have “a personal link to Neverland.”

Readers can select the window they want to pay to repair based on location and price. A small window in a stairwell will cost around £500. A nursery window which researchers believe was described in a fairy tale will cost up to £20,000.

“Windows play a terribly important role in the story of Peter Pan. Peter Pan first appears in the window, then the children fly after him from the window. Mrs Darling is at the window waiting for them to return,” said Joanna Lumley.

The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust plans to open the mansion to the public as a children's literature center. The building's attic will be converted into a children's room as described in the story of Peter Pan. The garden surrounding the house will be called "Neverland" and will be equipped as a playground for children. The initial renovation is planned to be completed by 2015, and the mansion will be opened to the public in 2016.

The Mote Bray mansion, built in 1821, is where the writer James Barry (1860-1937) spent his childhood. Between 1914 and 2008, the house and garden were resold many times. In 2009, the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust bought the house from the housing association after it was due to be demolished. A fundraising campaign to renovate the mansion began in 2011. In total, about 4 million pounds were required for restoration.
