Apple has withdrawn the update released on September 20 for the Apple TV set-top box, 9to5Mac reports. This happened because users who installed the update complained about device malfunctions.

A number of users noted that during the update some of the contents of the console were erased. Others said that after installing the new software, Apple TV refused to go online. For some users, the device stopped functioning, and for some it worked fine, but spent an extremely long time loading content.

Complaints can be found in the technical support section of the Apple website. Note that not all Apple TV users encountered problems, but only a portion of them. However, Apple decided to stop distributing the software until the bugs were fixed.

Now the set-top box informs its owners that the newest firmware version is 5.3. The update, released on September 20, had version number 6.0. On Apple's website, however, firmware 6.0 is still available. Tim Cook's company has not yet commented on the situation.

The update, recalled by Apple, provided the set-top box with support for Internet radio iTunes Radio, added the ability to buy music in iTunes, introduced podcast synchronization and contained other innovations. Firmware 6.0 could be installed on second and third generation consoles.

Apple TV has been in production since 2007. The set-top box allows you to view content on your TV from the local network, from the iTunes store and from certain Internet services. The device runs a modified version of iOS, the operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
