What is after Breaking Bad?

The exciting American series Breaking Bad is coming to an end. On September 29, the last series of the final season is released. What next?

The series of the AMC Channel “All Great”/Breaking Bad started in a crisis in 2008. The protagonist Walter White (Brian Cranston) is a 50-year-old chemistry teacher at school. He has a pregnant wife, a son with cerebral palsy, mortgage payments, at school he receives a penny. All former friends and colleagues went around it in life. And to top it off, Walt diagnosed cancer at the terminal stage. Having accidentally hit Hank’s hand (Dean Norris), working in the management of drugs, to clean the laboratory producing metamephitamine, Walt unexpectedly “found a topic”. As a brilliant crystallography specialist, he will cook the cleanest “met” and make money to pay something to pay for treatment and what to leave to the family. In his partners, he takes his former student and Pusher (small drug dealer) Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul).

BUSINESS MUST Go ON

“All Great” is almost an illustration for some business rate. The first season has gone to create a small enterprise for the production of the best product in the market. Manufacturers immediately had problems with distribution: it is difficult to organize a sales network themselves, and the wholesalers turned out to be unreliable and dangerous people. In the second season, contact with a suitable distributor was made - Gustavo Fringe (Dzhankarlo Esposito), but only due to the absorption of a small enterprise with a larger business. In the new modernized laboratory, the volume of products produced sharply increased. Walter took care of the problem of washing the received millions and tried to solve it with the help of lawyer Sol Gudman (Bob Odenkerk). At the end of the fourth season, he, however, decisively regains his company management, finds new partners in the fifth and even enters the international market.

At the same time, the business required continuous crisis management. Walt should hide from Skyler's wife (Anna Gann), and when she finds out the truth, she has to fight with her moral crisis, keeping his family from decay. He needs to hide from Hank, an insightful agent, for whom the blue “met” and its boatman, the great and terrible “Heisenberg” (nickname Walt), became an obsessive idea. Walt must constantly hold his partner Jesse, a good -hearted and fundamental “kid”, from that he does not dump and not abandon the business. I must make sure that the new owner of Gustavo Fringe does not replace him with another boatman, expropriating the superoformula. Walter White is the same absolutely rational agent, the hero of modern economic rationality theories, forced to fight how his perfectly debugged logistics collapse due to other people's emotions, idiosyncrazia and lack of motivation. In the surrounding world of lawlessness, where everything is possible and allowed, he decided to be guided by one principle: all for the sake of the family, and none of its members should suffer (and Jesse, for whom Walt has become a kind of symbolic father, and even Hank). And for this he is ready to pay any, the most bloody price.

However, gradually, the obvious motives of Walt begin to be divided, fluctuate. He likes to do business and likes the cooking process. Walt is a perfectionist, despite the fact that consumers of his product are famous for illegibility. In the third season, there is a wonderful episode “Fly”, in which Walt and Jesse almost the entire series catch a fly flying into an underground laboratory. And chemistry itself is a fetish process. Everyone all around will get Walt, and he just would have to cook calmly. Walt likes to feel cool. Throughout his life he was a beta-male, who was condescendingly looked at a macho like Hank. He wants to take a revenge-for a failed life and for once proudly left a company founded together with friends-students, which now brings billions of profit. And like anyone who was engaged in crisis management, Walter White cannot stop, because without this life is too boring. In one of the episodes of the second season, Walt has a remission, a lull came in business, and you can lie down to the bottom. He is idle around the house, the repair is starting, which, it seems, is needed only by one. He goes to the household and there he stumbles on a person who is clearly purchased for the production of Meta. With his characteristic boring, Walt gives a lecture that you can’t buy everything in one place. And then he goes outside and confidently drives both his territory both the buyer and his boss.

Between sympathy and disgust

Finally, Walter White is not just Breaking Bad, he is really BAD. It was with such an idea that the creator of the series Vince Gilligan came to the AMC channel: the transformation of Mr. Chips, a popular literary hero in America, personifying an ideal school teacher, in the face with a scar, the legendary gangster and the head of the drug cartel. The hero turns into an anti -Hero, and then simply into a villain. They say that each lover of the series has his own episode in which he refused to identify with Walt White. If at first the viewer could push away hypocrisy, lies and manipulations, then by the end of the Gilligan series and the main role and the full co-author of the series (and from some point, the director of some episodes and producer) Brian Kranston more and more emphasize the Made of the greatness of Walter

One of the mechanisms of identification, the loss of sympathy for the main character is the image of Jesse. At first, they thought that he would die in the first season, but as the plot develops, Pinkman turned into the living and, it seems, causing the greatest sympathy of the character. Nevertheless, the series is made in such a way that the tension between the sympathy and the audience’s disgust to Walter White remains to the very end.

Without messages

“All Great” is an ideal example of building a through plot. On television, it does not occur so often, this is an important feature of the new high -quality television. Usually, in the series of a through plot, the plot is combined with closed plots that are permission inside each series and providing the viewer with intermediate satisfaction, when the show is still so far before the final of the show. The vertical and horizontal plots fuse poorly, and you have to make a discount on the conventions of the television genre. In the series “All Great” all according to the Hamburg account, and the authors do not give themselves any messages. The audience has never weakened.

Although there is one kunshtyuk here: the viewer constantly has to engage in the solution of practical puzzles and admire the elegant and original solutions that Walter White finds. In the fifth season, for example, there was a robbery of a train with methylamin, resolved in the style of Western (do not forget that the series takes place in the Wild West in the Albuquerque) or "eleven friends of Ocean." In ingenuity, Walter White will not yield to the FOGSU branch from "Around the World in 80 days." True, the fifth season in the direction of movement to the finale is increasingly turning into the traditional genre of a criminal action movie, which was not originally “all serious”. If the first opponent of Walter Gustavo Fringe was a rather strange and exotic figure and in many ways even to him, now the third, external force has turned on - ordinary criminals without complexes.

On September 29, the last series “Great” is released. Brian Cranston believed that two more seasons could be removed. Indeed, in the fifth season, the picture expanded, there were moves that could be developed. And Krenston can be understood: his belated acting luck resembles the fate of his character. But Vince Gilligan decided to finish in the fifth season. And in the future, the nostalgic spectator will have to be content with the spin-off, the side of the adventures of the clever lawyer of Gudman's dexterity “Better Call Sol!”/Better Call Saul, whose action takes place “in all heavy” and in which there will be neither Walt, nor Jesse, nor the rest.
