TrV-Science announces a new permanent column dedicated to dissertations and the Dissernet network.

Wait, dear reader. Wait just a little longer. In one of the next issues of the newspaper, we will slowly, thoroughly, put everything into detail, and tell you about the Dissernet network community and how incorrigible C students turn into successful effective managers, about the big soap bubble of pseudo-academic degrees and, finally, why everything - to know whether your boss has a fake degree or a real one.

In the meantime, as a primer, let’s look at the aerospace area under our magnifying glass. It is precisely that area that was once the pride of the nation, but now finds itself in a deep hole, let’s say so. What's happening? Why did the country lose its aviation industry and gain a bad reputation for falling rockets and satellites? And why is any sane person not optimistic when it comes to the modern Russian aviation industry?

Unwinding this tangle, we inevitably come to the origins of the modern Russian aerospace school, to the forge of highly qualified personnel in the industry - the Moscow Aviation Technology Institute, the University named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky (MATI). Let's knock on the door of the university rector, Doctor of Economics Alexander Viktorovich Rozhdestvensky.

In this section of the Dissernet network community, we look at scientists and officials through a specially built optical system. We evaluate them not by how cheerfully they tell jokes or what kind of reports they write to their superiors, but by their secret scientific work, called a dissertation for an academic degree. It is no secret that for many this is a means of career growth, a means hidden from prying prying eyes, and therefore both a real scientist and an outright swindler can equally successfully use it. Moreover, the latter does not doubt for a minute that no one will ever read his dissertation and he will never have to blush for it in his boss’s chair.

Oh no no no! Well, how can that be? Why did you purchase this product, which has been used many times before? The filled-in squares of the dissertation pages are large-scale borrowings from other people's earlier works. Where is the originality of the work, its scientific novelty? A classic example of scientific fraud!

How did it happen that a person who was unable to distinguish a fake, crudely compiled from someone else’s work from an original scientific work, was entrusted with leading the forge of highly qualified personnel in the country’s aerospace industry? If the popular wisdom truly says, “Like the priest, so is the parish,” then you no longer have to worry about this long-suffering sector of the national economy. It's easier to forget about her. It will be cheaper.
