According to the Russian Criminal Code, the maximum term under the article "Piracy" is 15 years of imprisonment.

At the same time, on Wednesday that the activists who tried to land on the platform are not pirates, but formally violated international law, at a meeting of the Third International Arctic Forum "Arctic - Territory of Dialogue" said President Vladimir Putin.

“I don’t know what happened in detail, it is quite obvious that they were not pirates, but formally they tried to capture the platform, and our law enforcement agencies, our border guards did not know who was trying to seize this platform under the guise of Greenpeace,” Putin said. “Against the backdrop of bloody events in Kenya, everything could be,” he added, without specifying how the capture of hostages in Nairobi, which occurred on September 21, could influence the actions of Russian border guards in relation to ecologists two days earlier.

According to Putin, it would be better if representatives of Greenpeace took part in the Arctic Forum. During this meeting, they could express their concern and bring existing problems for the discussion, the president noted.

Since September 19, the environmental organization has been conducting single pickets at the Central Office of Gazprom in Moscow. Activists replace each other in this post. The next day, Gazprom’s offices and the buildings of Russian embassies were joined by activists around the world.
