Theodor Bastard. "Orion"

The St. Petersburg ethnic group with 17 years of experience represents an animated video-the third in its history. The artist Arthur Merkulov painstakingly painted him for more than five years, so during this time the group changed the sound, and this song left the repertoire. The clip, however, will remain for a long time:

Arthur painted us with the clip "Selva" - an excellent job. Arthur himself is a Siberian, and these motives in his work, in my opinion, are very strong. We discussed a lot with him pagan Russian roots and myths of various peoples. Like two teenagers, read out legends and shared with each other. So gradually the idea of ​​the next work for the song "Orion" arose. Arthur decided to make it in a new technique for himself - to stroke each frame, and the work was so dragged out that the song itself left our repertoire. But now, when I look at this work, at the work that Arthur did, I understand that it was worth it. And even the song itself seems to me not so alien.

Initially, the video was conceived on another song by Theodor Bastard “Epilogue”, written on the verses of the Spanish poet Juan Ramon Homens:

“I know, probably,
I am an eternity tree
And my blood
Stars are fed,
And birds in the foliage -
My dreams and dreams.
And if I'm falling
Grouped by death -
The sky will collapse. "

But in the process of work there were changes, and we decided to change the composition, but the original plot idea remained. However, she evolved over time: I tried to follow the spirit of the composition, to follow the music. So, for example, the storyline of totems appeared.

The cartoon is made using the hatching technique. Each frame was painted individually. This is just one of the reasons why the clip has been done for so long - it has already gone for the sixth year. I had to work on the clip in the evenings and on the free weekend. Norshtein, of course, could not be surpassed in terms of terms, but in moments of weakness it seemed that this was feasible.
